The Horticulture/Forestry program provides students with training in all areas of arboriculture, landscaping, and the horticulture industry. Students learn landscape design, construction, and maintenance, heavy equipment operations, tree care, nursery and greenhouse production, turf management, and golf course and park recreational area maintenance. Students gain experience in the use of chain saws, tractors, heavy equipment, small engines, and hand tools.
Work sites are located at the school's off-campus forest, in the greenhouses, and on the grounds of the school.
The program also prepares students to take tests for their Commercial Drivers License, Pesticide Application License, Hoisting Operator's License and Timber Harvesting License.
Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass Amherst grants 3 academic credits to graduates of the Smith Tech Horticulture/Forestry program who are accepted to Stockbridge.
